On 5th January 1922, the Waiuku Branch was opened by then Prime Minister Bill Massey, after decades of lobbying, deputations and general agitation for a railway to Waiuku.
To mark the centenary of this momentous occasion, the Glenbrook Vintage Railway will be staging a re-enactment of the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon by a double-headed Ww Class steam locomotive-hauled replica of the inaugural train, and subsequent opening ceremony.
Other attractions adjacent to the Station have been arranged by the Waiuku Business and Development Association, and include stalls, displays, Sunset Coast Big Band, vintage cars and more.
The re-enactment of the ribbon-breaking by Ww480 and Ww644 is timed for 12.00pm
Trains will run between Victoria Avenue Station and Pukeoware Workshops and return during the afternoon.
