The only way to ride through the Mighty Manawatu Gorge today! Pack some snacks and jump onboard your very own exclusive heritage train taking you through the Manawatu Gorge.
All aboard for the School Holidays! With convenient morning and afternoon departures, this is a rare opportunity to spend the afternoon with us traveling through the Manawatu Gorge, taking in its beauty which we all took for granted when we could drive our cars through there.
Sit back and relax, bring a camera and some snacks too and enjoy this short journey from Palmerston North to Woodville.
At Woodville, be sure to watch our train turning around on the 'balloon loop' this is quite an interesting way to turn an entire train, which is unique to Woodville only.
On the way home, those sitting in the carriage on the cliff side of the gorge on the outward leg will now be on the gorge side of the carriage (thanks to the balloon loop at Woodville!), so everyone should get the opportunity to see the massive slips that closed the gorge indefinitely and to take in what the gorge looks like from the rail side.
The School Holiday train adventures don't have to stop when you arrive back at Palmerston North - as on the very next day we are running the Rangitikei Viaduct Voyager day trip north to Taihape and return over some of the great scenic viaducts!
As this is a pre-booked allocated-seating tour, face coverings are not compulsory but are strongly encouraged. For more info see the official NZ Government COVID-19 website.
In the event that the NZ Government or its agencies prevent the operation of this tour taking place due to COVID-19, refunds of fares paid (net of outgoings made from those fares) may be made by GVR upon written application being received from booked passengers.
We aim to seat passengers from the same booking together. You will be allocated at least one window seat for bookings of 2 or more (subject to availability). Where possible, seats will be turned to face the direction of travel (pairs and singles) or to face each other (groups). If you are travelling with people on a different booking or have another specific request then please email us as soon as possible at [email protected] and we will try and accommodate your request the best we can. Your allocated seat and carriage details will be on your boarding pass which will be emailed to you at least 2-3 days before your departure date.
Your ticket entitles you to return train travel on GVR's heritage train.
